What is a Gossip Girl episode sans Nate? Well, a mediocre one.
This week we were deprived of the annoyingly perfect and dreamy Nate Archibald and therefore got no plot development in the Nate/Jenny story, which was most of the reason I was watching anyway. I hope this one doesn’t get thrown to the wayside too because it definitely has room to cause some amazingly great drama. Case in point: this week’s lackluster episode.
Anyway, Jenny was off living with Agnes and trying to get investors interested in her fashion line. After arguing with a selfish Agnes over the brand, which she took complete credit for, Jenny decides to ditch her and try to make it on her own. When the crazy model finds out, she decides to burn—yes burn—all her designs. So very Kaitlin Cooper of her, don’t you think?
Dan is still trying to score that Yale recommendation by writing an in-depth story on Chuck and his father. When he digs up some good dirt, New York Magazine becomes interested. The euphoria from doesn’t last long as Dan realizes he can’t do that to Serena and her family. Nonetheless, Dan gives his story to Bart Bass and we finally get a genuine conversation with father and son. I still see trouble stirring…
Blair spends most of her 18th birthday trying to get rid of her mom’s new beau Cyrus who turns out to be a short and irritating man instead of Prince Charming. To even more of Blair’s dismay, it turns out that Serena is semi-dating Cyrus’s son Aaron. For those of us that have read the books, we saw it coming.
Aaron is well…not anything to write home about. He’s got a faux-authoritative personality and treats Serena like a second-rate date. Even after giving her a condescending lecture on their non-exclusivity, she goes running (literally) back to him. Come on, Serena, have some pride!
No, it wasn’t the episode of the year, but it was tolerable. I’m just excited for next week’s thanksgiving installment and the return of Nate (and Vanessa, I suppose).
